LP at LP. Has a nice ring to it, no? That's thanks to Dave Halligan planting ideas in my head. Lots of people planting crazy ideas in my head to make up for the crash. Pondering....
What's all this bees-wax I'm reading about 2012 planning?!?!? Funny about the core stuff. I was in the weight room this AM for week two of my new core/strength routine that is going to accompany my "gittin' my run groove back" theme for2011.
I have to sit down and pull my pix from this weekend and send them off to you gals.
Kristen -I thought I remembered that this was your CB weekend. Glad you had good weather!! some Septembers can be dicey with weather in the mountains. Did you indulge in some of my favorite pizza?!?!
Any chicas doing AZ this year?
I have a huge bag of veg from the CSA...it's a bit overwhelming. Sometimes I want to have them hold my delivery for a week! (not really, but sheesh) I need to make a boatload of tomato and cucumber salad...problem is I want to sit and read race reports.
I am full of Daisy Cutter beer; burger with chili, bacon, egg; truffle fries, and ice cream sandwich. DMK Burger, I've been waiting for you all summer and it was worth it.
LP in LP -- This race does have your name on it. I'll come to help!
Wow, I slept until almost 8 today, OR schedule was light so I didn't have to go in. GOOD sleep, you know, the kind where you're not freting over getting your workout done or what your TSB is!!
Michele- Thanks for the info about beachbody.com. Now, would you please get on FB sos I can keep up with you !!
Sheryl- Having my family @ ;IMs has been so wonderful & I know yours will keep hanging with you. You are gonna see this through, no doubt.
Beth- Keep enjoying all that wonderful food! Last night I made some chicken paprikash & had some Sam Adams Octoberfest followed by a Snicker's mini ice cream bar.
Olivia- Are you following a specific core plan??
Linda- How's the cold??
I am thinking we all need to be seated @ ;our computers July 25, 2011 with cc in hand. The Chicas rocked Madison, on to the "Revenge Tour" in Lake Placid......

I'm game for IMUSA '11! (provided I survive another mass swim start!)
Really struggling with allergies/cold here. Chest is super tight and feel like can't breathe. Started immediately with sore throat Mon morning. Sounds like other have similar? Super behind at work so will get caught up with RR, pics and the like this weekend!
is this it?? there a gizillion varieties out there!! and for some reason I can't read page 6 of this thread so not sure what Michele said but I think she said to get Insanity ?? Sheryl what did you get? just measured body parts with tape measure and weighed. back up to pre race weight.
Thanks for welcoming my BFF Cindi!! she came home and ran after having that many days off from any exercise! and we talked about P90X too. We would have to do it separately as we don't live close. her ward off illness drink is one pacakge of EmergenC and one airborne mixed in water.
I am gonna ride my bike tomorrow morning, I think it is a social ladies ride with coffee and bagels! so should be a good reintro. Woman that is leading it is super wicked fast, college runner turned roadie.
miss you too! gonna get connected with mom and sis this morning. m
Marianne- I can't seem to read posts on the earlier pages either. Not sure whats up with that.
Work exploded while I was having fun in Madision, so I'm back to the grindstone. I really miss you all!! I keep packing a bag to swim in the morning only to sleep in instead. Aaaaah, so nice not to have the pressure of a workout looming!
2012 revenge tour is starting to grab momentum for sure. I'd like to go to the IMLP camp this year- just for fun. Bet that trip would push me over the edge to sign up on race day. Oh man, and I thought I was done with Ironman!
But don't forget ladies, we have a big date in Madison next year at Mile 18. Gotta pay back the guys for everything they did for us this year. We've been scheming about our "Pink Baithing Suit" uniforms and have already come up with some hilarious ideas! Think syncronized swimming with pink swim caps with daisy flowers, nose plugs, and oversized stuffed mardi gras boob tops. Oh, and pink boas too of course! It will be awesome!
Yippee! so excited to see momentum for LP2012! It really is a beautiful course, challenging in a different way than Madison. Imagine swimming in a crystal clear lake where you can see your extremities! It would be great to have company for my revenge on LP. Will have to check on timing for LP rally next year and when eagleman is. My friend and trainer Shawn will be doing his first HIM, want to be there to support him. I will be up there for the race to volunteer and train on course
Chica reunion 2011- are we still thinking Timberman? Registration is open. I doubt you guys want to be thinking of any kind of race now, but.....
I can guarentee you will be working core. This is something that matt dixon, the tri coah for several of pros has been using. They have lots of info on multisport.
Like everyone else, am back home, exhausted from the weekend festivities. It was so great to be there and cheer you guys on! Loved every minute of it.
Came home very inspired to get to work on my revenge on LP. First things first though, getting to bottom of tendonitis/plantar fascitis in my foot, that started during my IM training. Will get MRI to rule out stress fx in foot. Cross your fingers, say some prayers that it is not. Actually I am leaning toward probably not since the pain is much better and can walk better today. Will be wearing Danskos and compression socks a lot next few weeks. I may show up in Glamour don't with black tape over my eyes Anyway, enough of my injuries
@Sheryl - OMG, that's terrible. glad you got it diagnosed...and so sorry it was a problem for you on your big day. When I saw you you looked like you were having a rough time of things (more so than to be expected), unbelievable how far you went dealing with that! AMAZING. You're an Ironwoman to me!
I'll definitely have to check out this P90x and Get Insane thing... well, when I'm finally in the off season... one of these days.
Rode the kestrel on the trainer last night. I think I'm feeling that she's a she not a he... but will decide on a name this weekend. I thought it felt good, but not perfect... tweaked the seat a bit and hope it will work out for the loooooong rides this weekend. May need to tweak some more, then will shoot another video for Todd. If all goes well it will be close to money, if not perfect, for my RR/Aqua Velo next weekend. I also got the speedfill on there and rigged the cage between the bars - which looks a bit ghetto bc I used the super big reusable zipties that came with the speedfill... will change them out eventually when I finalize the system (perhaps getting a plate)... Looking forward to the rides this weekend, but nervous too. My longes of the season on Sat (4.5 hours) on a new bike. Hopefully I won't be solo... a friend may join me for part of it... then another slightly less long (3) hour ride Sunday... Kate and/or Suzanne may be game to join me for some/all, which would be super nice! In any event, I'll keep you posted.
I'm loving reading the RRs and am taking notes for myself! I'll probably start my checklists soon.... while so many things are fresh...
Again, I can't tell you how much fun it was this weekend to meet you so many of you and to cheer for you. If you do another group race I hope to join you... or, at the very least, sherpa again!
Man, having a hard time posting.Maybe third time will work
Nemo- you already got my text, I am fine. I appreciate your concern. Shock Trauma is at University of Maryland across town from Johns Hopkins. I am off today. ( For those that have not seen the news, a surgeon was shot at hopkins, was in the OR from news reports. i'm surprised the news reports keep saying he is going to be fine before getting out of surgery- with gsw to abdomen, you find surprises. )
I know this can be a possibility in the Back of my mind, considering some of our clientele, but this event brings it to the front. I know that STC is very secure. Baltimore police has a significant presence at our hospital, as well as our own hospital police. You can't get into many parts of shock trauma without your badge or escort ( I have been locked in the stairwell before, thinking i had my badge, but didn't ) The gangsters in baltimore know that shock trauma has lots of po-lice. However, when these guys want to get somewhere, they find the means.
@Tracy - glad it didn't effect your facility! Let me know if you're free to ride this weekend. I've got 4.5 and 3.0... I'm not sure where I'm going. Possibly Beach Dr Sat and Nokesville (if Kate is game) on Sunday... next weekend dis my RR. Not sure if the weekend after that is your half full...
@Sheryl - I forgot about your Infinit question... I had the same one when I first ordered as I was on the books for olys, 2 HIMs and the IM... I had contemplated 3 mixes. I called and had a consult with Lori and she worked with me on my formula. Only have one... and so far so good with the oly and 2 HIMs... we just tweaked it a hair for my second bag as I'm down about 10lbs since my first order (yay)... and had a long talk about how important it is to drink it all and drink it on a schedule (which is why I'm trying the concentrated 3 hour bottle this weekend... I just won't get through a bottle an hour AND water... and heck, I've had trouble getting through 2 bottles in three hours). I would definitely recommend a phone consult. The number is on the web page and I called it as opposed to doing the formal sign up procedure... and she called me back within a day. Good luck. And I hope you're feeling better!
@Chica Reunion planners: bummer, I'm out for Timberman next year b.c of IMWI... but despite the bad weather and the slug fest of a swim (which I know you can handle after reading about IMWI), I thought it was great. Hilly but not impossible. Well supported. Cute town. Clear water. I definitely want to go back and do it again (fingers crossed for better weather) and plan to in 2012! IMLP isn't in my plans for 2012. I've told Dan 2012 will be IM free but the thought of a chica reunion IS enticing... but LP isn't on my list. I'm sick and twisted enough to want to do a marathon in every state and in 2012 I'm guaranteed a spot in the NYC marathon. So, if I do LP, it will be a "wasted" marathon (already repeating FL and there just aren't enough IMs and marathons in me to do any more states twice... ). I may never make it, but I'm gonna have some fun trying! Knock on wood, if all goes well, next year I'll be able to scratch 2 off my list (WI and PA) - bumping me up to 7! Speaking of which, Beth, if you do Fargo some time, let me know... I'd love to have some company while scratching ND off my list! Hmm... maybe I can organize a chica destination marathon?!
pink sports bra with pink shorts? hey I am not committing to this btw!!!
okay I am very excited because a 6'4, 215lb tri buddy of mine is "thinkin" about doing his first IM in TX!! I have a new race strategy like I told hubby, learn to draft off his feet cuz he can block me! forget swim technique all I need are some bodyguards!
I think we need to think as a group and figure out why all of the stomach distress at WI. I didn't have any but still feel like this was a problem for the Chicas.
**
hydration and nutrition:
1. I drank so much of Lake Monona that I was hydrated before I started bike
2. because I train down here I didn't think the day got hot, yes warm, but not hot. so I wasn't sweating and actually dialed down the water and went thru several aid stations cuz aero bottle still had some in it. by the end, would pour bottle in aero bottle and then some on neck.
3. I made myself 1 Peanut butter sandwich cut in half and at 30' into it, ate half and then 1 hr ate the 2nd half, from then out I used 6 hours of Carbo Pro, 220 cals per hour. not taking any cals the last 30 mins.
4. I went potty one time out there on the bike. so was hydrated and it felt normal to just go that infrequently compared to tng rides.
5. Out on run, I carry with me small 5 oz flask and it was prefilled with water and I had 3 Gus so first aid station didn't stop as they were out of coke.
6. Think I did get some pretzels for the salt. and I ate lightly, maybe 2 orange slices the whole time, found 2 aid stations with some coke and drank 1/2 each time, think I ate 1/2 of a cookie too, drank the Perform and chick broth but trained with those so no issues. Also had baby snickers in spec needs. that is 90 cals.
7. Went to potty first time to check that everything was working and went a 2nd time but prolly coulda skipped.
8.. I could tell I was still sweating even with power walking. Once I started walking, I Knew HR would be lower,
9. I carry with me pepto, immodium, excedrin migraine and aleve and I took 2 aleve and 1 excedrin during course of day. my kneecaps were killing me with hills so I took those on bike and took the excedrin when ITs began to hurt.
**
my conclusion: I didn't do anything different than training days. I also went slower than most of y'all and so maybe my HR was lower. I was also heat acclimated to run and my RRs finished with 110 heat index so heat was not a factor for me. sometimes in training, I have gotten weird stomach pains that make me feel like my bike shorts are cutting my waist in two, 2 motrin and riding easier for about an hour seems to clear that up. for nausea, sometimes that is because I take in cals and then ride uphills getting my HR high, so I try to eat on the flats, I also keep it to about every 15' and not one big ole 30's swoosh of something. I force myself to potty so I can see if I am hydrated. Also in training, I will eat extra to force bad things to happen and also undereat to basically see what my personal parameters are. not all the time but you know what I mean. I didn't use any extra salt this time but did eat a few chips and pretzels which had salt.
**
I say this to you not to have the answers but to brainstorm about the gastric distress many of you have had.
1. Did you have this in training?
2. Do anything diff on race day and if so why?
3. Have you tried other liquid nutriton? I know you like what you use but if it doesn't work???
My first chance to post since this weekend. I really enjoyed watching you and following you on race day. It was great to follow you all. Great accomplishment for all. Simply enduring the training to toe the line is an accomplishment.
I am planning IMLP 2012 as my next IM. It would be awesome to have another group of chicas!
I think I'm going the Wii route for core work. I got into it last winter a bit and enjoyed it. I'm determined to get the one hundred pushups as well. Never did complete that goal. Really want to save the extra $$ for power and a new bike rack.
@ becky- Probably can't ride the columbia course this weekend. My posterior tibial tendon/foot is irritated, afraid if I try to ride before inflammation down, may make it worse. ( Really hoping I can do sunday afternoon though) Half full is 10/3. doing it as a relay with suzanne and a friend of hers. If at all this weekend, maybe sunday afternoon as I work sat night. Plan to get back in yoga studio this weekend, lots of swimming and pool running
Hi! I am having major problems getting onto the forum at work. And last thing I want to do every night is be on the computer. But I miss you ladies!!!
Let's see: LP @ LP in 2012- I think I'd like to join that plan.
Sheryl and infinit- I only have one formulation- BUT... I only use it for biking and long bikes at that (it has protein). Any bike 2 hours or less and I use Heed. Running I use Heed or the Ironman Perform. Infinit with protein would be too foamy for running.
I was one of the IMWI chickas with major GI issues shortly into the bike. I did nothing different- except that I have never drank that much pf Lake monona. On our short practice swims I didn't drink any. That is why I believe it was swallowing all of that lake water. On the bike I couldn't take sips of water, and forget Inifinit, without getting worse nausea. Tum and saltines, AND STOPPING sorted things out as best as the situation allowed.
I just recorded my podcast with Rich and hope to post the RR this weekend. it is done, I just can't spend more time here. See ya!
@Tracy - take care of that foot! We have plenty of time to ride to get ready for Columbia in May!
@Marianne - took more notes from your email (pepto, immodium - fingers crossed I won't need anything... but better to have and not need than need and not have!) Have to go to the drug store tonight anyway... so it will be with me tomorrow for my first try at a concentrated infinit bottle. I'm also gonna go on a quest to find powerade perform to start using it on my long runs!
@Sheryl - something Michele said made me think of it -- the infinit run formula I have is different than the bike and it does not have protein. again, a consult will help a ton! In hindsight I probably shouldn't have bought the run... the ladies' advice is very good to train with what's on the course, so my bag of run infinit is gonna stay closed til the outseason... need to start running with perform!
got my 2 hour run in last night... still haven't swam this week. not good. I will go tonight after work and don Monday's swim. Tomorrow is a loooooong brick so I doubt I'll swim, but if I do it will be after a nap. Dan's out of town so who knows. Sunday I'm planning on loading up the car. Going to the pool early then doing my ride straight from there. So, I will at least get 2 swims in this week! My legs were tired this morning so I nixed the 40 minute run... I'm hopeful to get onto a morning schedule next week so that I will get the appropriate amount of rest between workouts.... running last night did not translate into a follow up run this morning, even though it was a Z1 run (with hill repeats thrown in)... lesson learned (again)!
@Beth--girl, you got it going on right now!!!! All that energy from the fantastic Ironman sweeping through our spirit. Good date? No suprise there.
I am still sick as a dawg. I have the biggest head cold of my life with a cough. And I can't cough b/c of the bruised ribs--or if I do, it hurts like hell. I am exhausted too. Blah, blah, blah. BUT, I'm having fun being home playing with Cali, catching up on my life, and taking some down time. I'm also a little bored, like I don't know what to do with myself. I wish I could call one or all of you up and say, "hey, let's grab dinner!"
Hi Ladies, been reading all your RR and trying to hold out and not bring people down but the day after IMWI my son was diagnosed with melanoma, yes my wonderful son who I love to death and do my tris with?. Two random moles came back level IV and he is scheduled for cat and pet scans, it is invasive and he is meetingf his surgeon Monday and then an Oncologist will bE r removing as many lymph nodes as they need week after next. My world literally stopped and he and his wife had miscarried three weeks ago so really tough times. We were/are maybe doing a sprint tri Sunday just to try to act as normal as possible. Can't remember being so low. Lots of excellent top notch surgeons and lots of support and prayers. I had been training hard for Tawain HIM end of October but need to see how metastasized (sp) and what procedures we are looking at. Although I didn't get to go Sherpa or the race, still consider myself a chica after our Wisconsin rally weekend!!! So just wanted to put this out there and let u know I am reading all your fun posts but took this long to put it out there to my EN family!!
Linda...I am so sorry for your news!!! It seems so surreal for you and your family! I will be praying for you all as you pick your way through this difficult time! Please, keep us up to date so that we know how to pray for your family! Will be thinking of you! Whatever can be done, you ask. The strength in this group can help support you though this.
LindaH- so sorry to hear that! Thoughts and prayers with you and the family!
Kinda in a spacy odd place this week. The post partum IM funk thing. Almost as if this week wasn't real.. just trudging along. Slept in every morning ('cept today) and rode Wed. Work has been super busy so little to no time during week to check in or catch up. Enjoyed reading the RR's last night and putting one together this weekend. Finding it hard to put all the emotion from the journey into the report to do it justice! Seems like I should be able to pick up the phone and meet you guys for a workout, dinner etc. I train with 80% guys here (just not too many women and harder to get them together) so it's been a fun year.
I am NOT the emotional, touchy-feely type so this is odd sensation for me. Linda (via Beth I think) described us best... the team that has become family. I am proud to have such incredible family. Collectively we have had one crazy year... crashes, injuries, setbacks, deaths, marriages, cancer, new puppies, and well.. just life. Through each and every event, we shared them. Ups and downs! For this and all the other great things... Thank you!
Ok, enough mushy stuff.... back to FT's, T-pace, V-dots and the like!! For me.. Oct brings Homecoming Harvest ride (fun & pretty ride), Bourbon Chase Relay (200 mile - 12 person team) and training starts for Goofy Challenge in Jan (ooohhhh shiny metals....... 3 of them...... ). But this weekend... I vegetate like it was an Olympic sport!
LInda H- sorry for the news! Will keep you and your family in my thoughts. I say you and your SON Go for it with the tri, get your mind off worrying about what is to come! UGH! Will put my derm appt on my list of appts to make on Monday!
@Linda H.- So sorry to learn about your son. Very devastating and heartbreaking. Never give up. Life is so precious.
@Kris- I think that feeling is missing all of us being together.
Got myself up semi early and went to swim with my new friends. They are all sorts- distance swimmers getting ready for Catalina Island swim (21 miles), sprint triathletes, fitness swimmers. Nice people. Glad I went. Will likely keep this up as long as I can stand it. I was cold today and I was in full sleeve wetsuit, but no sun. Water temp 69 degrees. But losing inches during Ironman training left the suit big and water flowing around my mid section.
Came home and decided to get on my bike. Rode for 90 minutes. I felt good until almost 1 hr, then my stomach went bad again. I think I was pushing too hard and limited blood flow to the gut made me nauseous. Guess it was too soon to ride that hard. But my legs were fine.
Linda- I'm so sorry to hear about your son. Very scary stuff. I pray he was diagnosed early so it can be nipped in the bud so to speak
Kris- what Michele said. I really miss just being with everyone!
I volunteered this morning at the local Half IM. Hours on a windy sunny bridge left me exhausted! Yeah- I think the first time I do anything really athletic might be mid next week.
Kate- How is Joanna? She doesn't check in the forum much, but I've been thinking about her a lot. Have you heard from her since the weekend? I'm sure she's really bummed, but is she physically ok?

I didn't have any but still feel like this was a problem for the Chicas.

hydration and nutrition:

I say this to you not to have the answers but to brainstorm about the gastric distress many of you have had.
1. Did you have this in training?
2. Do anything diff on race day and if so why?
3. Have you tried other liquid nutriton? I know you like what you use but if it doesn't work???
4. Anything else?

New bike is getting dirty tomorrow!!! Woo hoo!!!
Tracy - Take care of that foot.
Becky -- Definitely tell us about new baby's first long ride outside!
Massages are awesome. Also, good date.

Did some house and yard chores. Now I need a nap.
