  • Great job Marianne! You'll be up in the 100's before you know it! I can't imagine doing them after swimming though, I like my arms to be fresh!

I'm repeating week 5 and since I was able to do 55 on my last test, I've moved up to level 3 on the plan. I was amazed today that not only could I do all the sets, but for the first time I was able to do the minimum required "Max" set!!! Pretty cool! I think I'm getting closer!
  • okay test done today after swim (20) which my 1st test was (8)... no stopping and good form. yeah well I need my arms/back etc for swimming so the pushups are what is leftover!! m
  • Still going and still seeing progress!

I am repeating Week 6, column 3. Last week, my first time through, I had to take extra rest between sets. Today I made it without extra rest until just before doing the max last set. And even then I decreased the rest by 1 minute. This is very cool!

I hope everyone is continuing to feel strong!

  • Awesome Michele! Sounds to me like your next 100 attempt is gonna be successful! I'm continuing to see progress too. This is my second time going through week 5-and it's much easier (still hard, but easier than the last time). I'll do Day 2 today at lunch.
  • Still at it.  Finishing up week 6 column two and giving the 100 one more try!  Kind of losing the git ur dun spirit

  • Hang in there Kathy- you are soooooo close! I just finished my Day 2 week 6 pushups. I did all of them AND the Max set too! Pretty cool- but I'm having trouble typing! HA HA HA
  • Oh Kathy! Please don't give up. I am on my 4th week of "Week 6". I did column 2 once, didn't get to 100, so then column 2 again, and I am on my 2nd go through for column 3 before I retest.

    You can do it!!!!

I am actually very psyched as I think this is going to improve my swimming even if I never get to 100! So I say keep it up! I don't do anything else for the upper body. Not sure if you do, but I think this is good work!

Nemo- Sounds like it is working for you too! Keep it up!

@ Nemo and Michele......thanks Chickas   Will keep it going or at least try!  It has helped my upper body strength for sure.  I try to do upper body stuff at least 2 x week either at home or at the gym in a class or on the floor.  Pull ups included   Michele I do think upper body strengthing does help in swimming....stronger pull means faster swim times!!  But, I haven't been in the pool for awhile, so we will see come March if this theory is correct.  You guys been swimming?

  • Ha! No swimming for me since my vacation in November and that was breast stroking around a hotel pool to cool off. I won't be heading to the pool until at least late April. And I am counting on this increased upper body muscle tone to prevent me from getting shoulder tendonitis when I do return.
  • Way to go ladies-keep working, I am staying in maintain phase-got to love those shouder/chest muscles-great for swimming
  • Finished week 5 (for the second time) and moving onto week 6 starting Monday. Hubby and I are now neck & neck! But he consistently gets more done with the max sets than I do. I'm sure he'll get the 100 on the next test.
  • Nemo- So was that part of Valentine's date? Let's do pushups? (big smile)
  • OK- Putting this up totally for the accountability part...

Just completed my 4th week of Week 6 (2 in column 2 and 2 in column 3), but my last test was 3 weeks ago.

Sometime this week I will try again. I keep getting stuck at 64 for the MAX last set.

Of course, on the website, I just read a testimonial from a 15 year old that made 100. Now I feel OLD

  • Don't feel old Michele! Or I will have to feel even older! :-) Seriously, I'm crossing my fingers for you! (Oh, and my hubby is VERY thankful that someone else has had to repeat Week 6 a few times too!)
  • WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

    I DID IT!

    I MADE 100 PUSHUPS!

    BARELY...

I definitely have to admit that I struggled in the last 10 and the last 3 were sheer will.

So in the spirit of the Olympics and Oscars, I would like to thank-

Dave Tallo for putting this challenge up. I wanted to get a stronger upper body. This did it and I will keep it up!

Matt Ancona for suggesting the "10 at a time" counting. Much less intimidating.

I also did a lot of dynamic stretching (windmilling the arms) and some wall pushups as well as light chest/ shoulder static stretching before the attempt. The muscles were warm and primed. AND IT WORKED!!

    THANK YOU!

To those still going- DO NOT GIVE UP! I was pretty negative about my chances when I first awoke this morning. I immediately began with the positive affirmations/ self talk. I put on some rocking and loud music. Sang out loud and went for it!

YOU CAN DO THIS! GOOD LUCK!

  • YEEEEEEEEEEHA!!!! Michele, you are an inspiration to me AND my hubby (who also has been repeating week 6 a few times). So freaking awesome!

    EN CHICKAS ROCK!

Congratulations Michele!!!  I knew you would be the next one to reach 100!!!!  Your determination is an inspiration to keep going.  To be honest I have been just repeating week 6.  I have been telling myself probably not ever get to 100   Though, I am so glad I jumped on board this challenge, cuz like you I am stronger and my chest muscles I can actually feel

  • Way to go-you rock

  • Thanks Nemo, Kathy, and Sheryl. I just really want folks to know it can be done, even by someone that started off at 17 total!!! But knowing that others were working through this was definitely motivation to keep going.

Now the pressure is off (it was all put on by me, myself, and I). I will continue to do the push up sets in order to maintain my new found strength. I am just going to repeat weeks 5 & 6 columns 2 and 3 on a regular basis. Throw in plank work and my arms will continue to beg for mercy!

Another huge thanks to everyone at EN!

  • Congrats Michele!

I finally got mine tonight as well ... 102 before I fell to the ground and couldn't move for a few minutes!!!

    Work Works!!!!

100!!! YEAH!  Good for you Matt, way to keep working til you got er dun!

  • Congratulations Matt!!! Woohoo! I'm still repeating weeks 5&6 over and over again. I'll get there eventually folks!
  • Matt- CONGRATULATIONS!! So AWESOME! Of course I thought you had reached this goal long ago. I guess that new family member has slowed you down :-)

    Thank You Everyone!

Michele, yes Abigail has slowed me down.  I still get up and get my main workout in before work, but at night I have to decide if I want to hold her or do pushups.  Needless to say, most days holding her has won and the pushups arn't happening.  I'm more that fine with it though

  • You need to strap her to your back for the 10 minutes it takes to do the pushups! It won't slow you down. Make sure you don't roll over on her ;-)
  • I just want to let you guys know I'm still working on this!!! Yes, one day I will get there!!! I went back to week 4 and completed row 3 of the workouts quite successfully. I'll start Week 5 on Wednesday. I'm really hoping this time through will work!!
  • Nemo- I am rooting for you. As hard as you are working on the legs, I am sure that you have the determination to get this done! I definitely find that some dynamic stretching before hand helps, and I lay on my foam roller to static stretch my chest and shoulders.

I am rooting also Nemo!  I have just been repeating week 5 and 6.  Lost the i can do 100 mojo.  Don't know if I will ever get to 100, but this challenge has greatly increase my upper body strength, so all in all it has been worth the effort

  • I slacked off but back on doing pushups. glad others are still going
  • ;Marianne- You mentioned your shoulder givign you trouble. Might be the pushups. I know you have been doing them, but as I do more stuff, i.e pushups, add swimming, more time in aerobars- I get shoulder pain. I stretch my chest and shoulder more often now and I know it helps, but also strengthening my back and loosening it up is huge. Just a thought.
