That makes at least 3 of us fellas still following the action. I love reading how all you girls are absolutely killin' it!!! Way to go! This is one of the most inspiring challenges I've ever been apart of! Thanks!
I did the Week 6 - Day 2 workout last night...248 push-ups in 9 sets...ouch! One more workout and it'll be final testing time...100 push-ups here we come!
Oh I'm so glad to hear you guys are still out there!!!
Is anyone else still kinda wondering how 8 sets of 25 (or whatever) is suddenly somehow gonna magically turn into 100 consecutive? Then again, if Fred can do 248 (YIKES) in 9 sets, it does seem like a measly little 100 should be a breeze! I can't wait to hear how your final test goes Fred!!!

Ummm, yeah, Nemo, you took the words right out of my mouth....I'm still wondering how I am going to be able to actually do 100 push ups by the end of week 6....45 is a loooong way from 100
Even though I'm hitting all of the benchmarks like the 248 last night, I'm skeptical that I'll be able to do 100 straight after only one more workout. My first test was at 46 and then (two weeks into the program), I tested at 60. To go from 60 to 100 in only two more weeks on the program seems like an impossible jump. I wouldn't be surprised if I need to go back and repeat weeks 5 and 6 again to get there. I plan to do week 6 - workout 3 on Friday and then try the final test on Monday. I'll definitely let you all know how it goes
The jumps from week to week have felt pretty huge, but not 40 pushups huge.
I repeated week three and might go on and repeat week 4 2x as well. I am sort of wondering what I will do when I get to 100. How many pushups a week is a good maintanance level when we are done?
Christy- I've been asking myself that same question! Somehow a nice round 100 in 5 sets of 20 seems reasonable to me. But since I just did 140 yesterday maybe I'm not thinking big enough! OMG- I can't believe I just typed any of that- those numbers seem unreal!!!
OK - I'm way late to the game but I'm always up for doing these things even if it is by myself. I'm starting Sunday.
My question: are any of you swimming and how has this affected it? I'm thinking I'm not going to be able to put my arm over my head for the first couple of weeks.

Brian, I've never felt slower in the water than I have my last few swims. That said, I think it has everything to do with my inability to locate the pool the past few months and very little to do with the pushup challenge. I figure the pushups will help get my upper body back into shape as I'm easing back into the pool
Brian- I'm swimming (injured-so it's my only OS choice right now). The first week was tough and took me a while to adjust- and I could certainly feel it when swimming (hell, I was feeling it sleeping!!!). But somewhere in the second week it all started to just feel like normal workout SOMS and I didn't have any more trouble.
Now that pull-up challenge I think will be even tougher on the swim. But I gotta save that for when I'm done with this one.
I completed Week 5 Day 3 today. 201 pushups- 7 sets of 20 or more then the max set. I was actually thinking that this would be a great "set point" level, should I ever actually get to the 100 in a row and consider myself "done". I would complete something similar on a regular basis for upper body strength. I'd really rather NOT go back to the start where I was sore for days on end.
OK- I had to go off plan today to take on Coach Rich. My Week 5 day 3 would have had me doing 165 total. While that's 5 more than he did, I knew that last "Max at least 45" would kill me and I'd risk not even matching him. So I made it simple and just did sets of 20. After Set #9 I thought "hmm, that's 180, which is what he said he did- except he got his math wrong and really only did 160. I bet I have another 20 in me, I'm going for a cool 200". With that, I pushed through (and pushed is the word) another 20!!!
When I told Joe I did 200 he said "I thought you only had to do 165 to beat Rich? to which I replied "Yeah, but then I thought 180 would be better, and then...." I got cut off with "You are just not right in the head!!! oh- and you smell too- go put on deoderant!" HA HA HA!
OK- I may not be able to life my arms over my head for a week, but I did it!!!
Oh- and Michele, on that final set of 20 I also thought that a basic 2x20 would be a good baseline. Can you beleive I couldn't do more than 11 a few weeks ago???

U ROCK NEMO!!! Way to get it done and beat CR in one fell swoop My rest day today, back at it tomorrow!
I'm behind most everyone else, back in mid-week 3, and also a day behind in my usual m/w/f routine. With that said, the jump from the sets going from wk3/dy1 of 80 to wk3/dy2 of 100, and wk3/dy3 of 120 are going to hurt! I might have to repeat a week like this to be able to move up.
Yes, my arms are mush at the time of the pushups, but I recover much faster than the first couple of weeks with it. My sit-ups are a day behind too. BTW, I couple the sit-ups with swiss ball jackknives and mason twists with a medicine ball, so i'm DEFINITELY getting a good workout in.
@Scott- You will likely be surprised. The jumps are big, but you will rise to the challenge I bet. Nemo and I both would look and think "No way.... well gotta at least try.." and we were able to keep it going. You will too!. Love mason twists...
Sitting on butt, rock back so feet are off floor- balancing. Hold medicine ball or something and twist touching it to the ground with each twist L and R. Good core work!

This usually is what works my obliques the best (unless Leigh or someone else can suggest something better). HURTS SO GOOD!
Posted By Nemo Brauch on 15 Jan 2010 02:36 PM Leigh's got that one on her list- but I think she calls it a Russian Twist??
ok, that makes sense...I have been doing those, they are really good for the obliques. I have gone through all of Leigh's core exercise for upper body, challenging, but good!
Today was another test day for me. I only improved by 10, now up to 55. I am definitely NOT going to make 100 at the end of next week. But I like that this program has enabled me to be this strong. Pull-ups are next!
Finished week 5 day 2 this morning after the bike intervals. Managed 185. Wish I could do all this on the toes....ah me, just not strong enough. Also managed 5 pull ups and sit ups with russian or mason twists.

I take 2 minutes rest before trying that max set.
Good thing you are beating Rich!
Again- WORK WORKS!

Week 1, Day 2 - 81 situps (81 swiss ball jackknives, 80 mason/russian twists) DONE!
And I still have to do my 1:15 bike workout! What a day!
