Well, I started Week 5, row 3 and ya know what? It was kinda easy!?!? I even hit 40 on th "Max" set and everything! I've been giving myself 2 days between these workouts and I think the extra recovery time is helping. I really think this time through its gonna work!
Week 6, Day 2, 3rd row, 246 freakin pushups!!! HOLY COW!!!! Now I'm just scared because if I can do Day 3 that means I really gotta try and go for the 100!!! I'm closing in!
Nemo!!! You inspire me! I would love to hear that you have done 100 because I know how dang hard it is!!I baled after 75, such a mental thing to get to 100.
OK- I had to take a week off from all pushups because I pulled a muscle in my neck/back. I figured I'd "retest" today to see where I should restart the schedule from and I knocked out 60 without too much trouble (didn't want to push too hard and pull the muscle again). So I'm back on the plan again and working towards that 100! My goal is to make it by TOC so I can have a little bragging rights around Coach R!
OK folks, I hate to say it, but I'm now officially out. I pulled a neck/shoulder muscle again and had to take days off from swimming/biking as a result. I can't keep playing with the push-up challenge and risking this silly sorta injury now that it's T-16weeks. The max I got to was 70 on a test. I'll still do pushups as part of my weekly core routine, but I gotta take it down a notch to just "maintenance" kinda mode until after IMWI. I can see revisiting this again next winter- maybe trying to get 100 done before 2010 is over!
Smart move. I am in maintenance mode for the most part. Sometimes I use that time to earn SAUs instead of doing push ups. I'd rather have you at IMMoo camp and race than an injured flipper sitting out everything. Take care of the neck/ shoulder.
I've started up again, but I'm doing each week 2x in a row so I can use the gains a little more instead of just trying to busy my ass getting to 100. Longer term goals in mind.
Nemo, I think you did the right thing by easing up on the push ups. Remember this whole challenge is supposed to help us, not hinder us. I went back to week 4 and my goal was to do all the reps on my toes. I told myself if I could do that, then I could move on to week 5. So, finished again, week 4 all on the ole toes, now on to week 5 with the same perspective. I am with you Scott, just taking my time this round and maybe just maybe I will get to 100.
I like the idea of just going back to week 4 and taking my time with it (more maintenance kinda mode). I think my desire to get 100 done before TOC made me push a little too hard and that's how I got hurt. I'll just have to give in and let Rich win this time!
In....but apparently my3 kids want to do this, too.
I thought cool, good on ya for gettin' stronger. Then they corrected me...all 3 shall sit on Daddy's back until he crumples! So, I said " BRING IT ON ". Then they had to go to high school.
I've been doing this for about 2 1/2 weeks. And I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with how wrecked I'm feeling 24 hrs after these workouts. I thought I was pretty strong, but, holy cow!
Kudo's for this efficient 10'/day, 3x week upper body blaster!
I managed to grunt thru W4-C3-D3 OK.... except I needed a few extra minutes between set 4 and set 5. Man that was a killer. Unless the pushup police are going to card me, I'm headed for Week 5 on Monday. Yippeee!

I had to cut back when my neck and then lower back were spasming. But now I am back at it and loving it.
