Quick question, I just set up my OS training schedule and entered my end date. The program came back that I will be starting with week 5 tomorrow. Isn't it better to start with week one as then I will start with all the testing? Or is it better to end when the program ends? I will not be testing until week eight if I start at week 5. Or did I miss something when setting everything up?
Dave, if you need to do 15 weeks, I suggest putting in the end date 20 weeks out, so you can start on week 1 and exit into your race plan accordingly. I wouldn't suggest jumping into week 5. That would hurt.
Hey everyone - Very cool to post your JOS stuff in the Dashboard for exposure, etc., but they disappear within a day so many of us won't ever see them.
For the new folks, there will be new run and bike threads every week. This is where the "mojo" gets built and the learning (uh, beatings) happen. Don't forget to post here also.
@Dan - I start tomorrow at 0900. Looka like no rain so I have recruited Tom Glynn to join me at the NorCal proving grounds around a local lake so he can taunt me while he is riding up my arse telling me to go faster. Whatever it takes, right?
I tested today. Let's see. Different bike, different trainer, different shoes/ pedals (less stable for me). Did not look at PM once during the test. Result: Same number!
Not sure what to make of it, but hoping that I have lots of room to move.
FTP 180.
Oh- the best part (NOT)- w/kg is down thanks to weight being up. So much improvement to look forward to- it's scary.
@ Geoff, welcome, anytime you want to turn some power let me know.
@ David- My thoughts exactly, I don't mind a little pain but that would be crazy. I have only been on the bike twice since my last race in early Nov. Will change date and start with week 1. Thanks
Any advice for FTP testing on the trainer? I did three FTP tests last year all outdoors. I haven't been on my trainer in a year or so since I've used my rollers for all of my indoor bike rides. I was planning on testing outdoors tomorrow morning but the forecast calls for rain and snow.

Just popping in to say that I did the 5K test today, and posted my comments in the JOS official thread. Rather than re-type, you can go there to read my comments. Basically, glad to be here with everyone! Good luck!
Nothing like waiting till the day before but joined the January OS group but can't post there and when I look at the January OS thread on the forum can't access? Any help for a technologically challenged member!!
@ Joe H, It sounds like you have not suscribed to the group. Try clicking on this link and look on the right side of the screen for the word "suscribe" in grey. Click on that and suscribe, after that check to see if you can access and post. If the link does not work click through the following:
Shouldnt matter too much. I have done all but one test on the rollers. Whether on the drainer or rollers you will still be doing the work and getting the stats. From what I have been told (and personally experienced) you generally post slightly higher numbers on the road. If you are going to get crummy weather I would stick to doing the indoor test and choose what ever flavor of pain (rollers/drainer) you are in for in the AM. I am going to use the trainer so I can get in the aero position and ease the discomfort in my hands etc. I can not get aero on the rollers without crashing ................. I have tried countless times. Maybe if I raise my cock pit it might help as I am set up really agressive.

Started OS Oct 2010 and due to work and family restarted OS Dec and AGAIN holidays killed me! I will be starting Jan OS and I look forward to training best I can and being on-line as this seems to keep me accountable. Now that I know how this all works, I will move forward ...Do my best and forget the rest!
Looking forward to training.
PS By the way...how do get the footer on your signature?
HI Dana! There is a link in the wiki called "pimp your signature". . Good luck!
Hi Geoff: I'm doing IMTX too! I think most others in Da Haus who are also doing it started OS earlier. I originally started in October but life got in the way and I needed to hit reset.
Good luck with testing everyone! Mine are (thankfully) in the books. Details in the weekly forums.
@ Paul I should have started OS sooner but submitted my proposed plan and Patrick suggested a break. I am thankful that I took one, however my waist line is a mess! Best of luck preparing for IMTX!
Geof, you'll do great. That's the beauty of the OS and testing every four weeks, you get to see tangible results that show proof you are improving. Stay strong..........Greg
I have been in da Haus for a couple of weeks now (read newbie) and I am part of the JOS, but I haven't yet introduced myself properly - here goes:

@David - make the end date 5/22. That should give you a start date of tomorrow.

Ok so sorry if this double posts - but something weird happened. Anyhow, another late entry into the JOS
Can't wait to get started - super duper slow and looking to improve both on the ride and run!
@ Greg - Thanks for the input - worked my a** off, wasn't happy with the results but it is a starting line!
