Hey I just used Workout Creator this weekend!  FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!.....I can now create a workout to synch with some longer ride/videos (ie. On the Road with TJacobsoen Lake Placid/Kona/Louisville/ and Mt. Lemmon Virtual Rides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).....

Ditto to Tim's question...anyway to string two templates togehter?

No way to string two templates together but we'll add that.  We'll have another release of the Workout Creator soon.  There's a LOT of new features in there that Reid has been working on.  It's much much better.

  • Posted By Al Truscott on 06 Jan 2013 11:55 AM

For Nate/Reid - at the present time, the Workout Creator does not seem to show the OS workouts. Thus, it's not possible to modify those workouts to personalize the warm-up. Am I missing something about how to get those workouts to show up in the Creator, or will that capability be included in the near future?

That's a good question.  We'll have to talk to EN about this.  Since EN owns the workouts, I think it would be their decision if we want to allow members to copy/modify the workouts.

The rub being if you left EN, you'd still have a copy of your those workouts.

So far, I think the ability to add EN workouts to TR is great! So thanks for making it possible.

My only comment would be that it incorporates my FTP numbers for the main set but not for the rest of the ride. My FTP is not 126 once the MS is done. So if I want to ride for say, 90 minutes, I have to manually keep track of my own numbers at be sure to stay at 80-85% without the help of TR. It would be nice if TR could adjust my target power automatically. If it does it for the MS why can't it do it for the remainder of the ride?

Or am I doing something wrong and it should be making the adjustment automatically?

    Hey,

It should be giving you targets for your entire workout.  What workout were you having problems with?

I've been designing my own workouts using the main set as a template, but then adding things like add'l tempo time etc or a customized warmup. When I set one up as 45/45 or 30/30 sets, the software is referring to them as "sweet spot" intervals (in other words, a 3x45 set isn't 3 45sec VO2 intervals but instead measures all the "on" and "off" time as one unit. How do I create it to record the avg power for each 45 sec or shorter interval?

(Intervals of 5-10 min work fine).

    Example: http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/145305

You'll be able to do that in our next release of the Workout Creator.  It has fine grain control for creating intervals.   Reid did a good job on it.

    Nate/Reid,

I have a Cycleops 300 Pro Indoor Cycle.  It's ANT+ but only between the PowerTap and the Joule and does not transmit to an ANT+ stick.  I think you guys were looking into those issues with Saris.  Do you have any update?

Yes!  We have an intern who's got it working.  He's got to do a couple more things but we should have it in our code base and released pretty soon.  I don't have an exact timeline for you, but it is coming.

Just a quick question for the group because it was REALLY early this morning when I tested my VO2 and FTP. The software had a number for 20 minutes "FTP" that was part of the summary and for me that number was 225. Is this number the "FTP" that we would use for our EN workouts or do I take 95% of that number(214?). I guess I was asking if the software computed that number for me because it said FTP. I used to taking the NP for the entire 42' of the OLD protocol.

My friend has a bumper sticker that says "1 out of 2 people are good in math, and the other 2 aren't."

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

As Greg said, the FTP that TR gives you is the correct FTP.  We take the average power for those 20 minutes and mulitply it by .95.

When I upload tcx files created by TR to Training peaks or golden cheetah, the data is not sgemented into intervals.  i.e. in training peaks under the map/graph tab I see peak 5s,10s power etc but no interval 1,2,3.  Is this what others experience as well?

Yah, that's the way it is right now. No intervals in .tcx export.

I was going to add intervals to the tcx export after we have the release of the workout creator, so it's coming! image

Ya, if you change up, say, OSINT W12 it affects everyone who does that workout.

Need to talk to RandP about possibly adding the ability to download all the workouts locally so you all can tinker as you please.  But that is an RandP call.  Not sure it will happen any time soon, but will add to my list.

Thanks for popping in and answering questions.  Much appreciated.

Hi Nate, thanks for taking the time to respond to our comments!

I have added my FTP result in the profile section (194) and yet all of the OS INT rides I have done so far (which would be weeks 9-10-11) do not adjust the target power # to reflect my specific numbers. It always stays at 126 when not in the main set. So warm-up, between intervals and once the main set in completed, is all at 126. What am I doing wrong? Thanks again!

It looks good to me, check this out: http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/153072

That's your latest ride. Your FTP is set to 194 and your VO2 max intervals are were at 233 watts, which is 120% of FTP.  That's the correct power for that workout.

It looks like your power was changing too.

    Here's another one: http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/150199

Your recovery power is 126.  So, for the VO2 max on ride 153072 you drop back down to a target of 126 when you're not doing the hard work, and that's to be expected too.  The workout is set to lock you in at 126 if you're not during the main work period.

  • I LOVE the Trainer Road software. I live in Southern California and yes we have had some wet weather lately. But I have not ridden outside since I downloaded TR right before the Jan OS started. I may never leave the pain cave. Do have one question for Nate and crew. Coach Patrick has a video on EN's new 25 minute bike warm up. Has anyone created that workout for their use or will that be a EN workout in the futue. I was thinking gettting that 25 minute warmup could be its own separate workout and then go to/load prescribed workout. I guess what I am saying is that I am too busy/lazy to sit down and figure out the workout creator. image
  • Hi folks--

The 45 on/45 workout seems to be missing from week 6 of the intermediate plan. I(5x(45/45 @120% FTP).

That's a good idea!  If the EN folks are down they could put it into the EN group.  We could also make it a "Video" workout so that you could drop the video into the player.

  • I was thinking that the 25' w/u could be a separate workout, but you would have to make the main set...just that a main set without the 12' at the begining. Unless, maybe Nate and Co. can add a feature where we can jump ahead and skip the 12'.

You can jump ahead in workouts today.  Just click on the graph for where you want to start.

  • Nate, I made a custom workout for today, but all the intervals got lumped together. I thought that if I set the target to 55, it would capture the interval. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

I think I still have the version of the creator that we used to edit the EN workouts before going live. Want me to make a workout file for it? I could also make a test file that has that warm-up on it if that's what RnP want us to do before our tests.

  • Peter - that would be great.

Sidenote -- I am willing to work with the creator software and make "Standard Warmup" versions of the OS workouts.

    Hi folks--

The 45 on/45 workout seems to be missing from week 6 of the intermediate plan. I(5x(45/45 @120% FTP).

Crap. That was one of the files that was acting strange. I tried to edit it and submit it again but I guess it didn't make it into the collection.

    Nate?

  • Joe, that is a lot of work... 14 x 3 x 3 is a big number.

With our code right now it's possible for a workout to get in a corrupt state.  If you think it's messed up its best to just create a new one.

DO I have to do the workout again?    thanks!

  •  Hehe, no.

if you edit the workout then republish the ride the intervals should show up.

  • Can my Garmin 500 act as the ANT+ USB stick plugged into my computer or do I need to buy a separate stick?

You need an ant stick.  Unfortunately there's not a way to turn a Garmin into a receiver we can use.

  • Hi Guys:

Nate, thanks for all the feedback.  I owe you and Reid beers.  Next time I am in Lake Tahoe I'll roll down the 80 one afternoon and take care of you guys.  Probably February sometime.

Looks like there aren't really any major issues with the OS workouts so far except the one Chris Mohr noted below.  Do I need to fix it?

    Lemme know.

    John

  • @Carlo: the number is actually 54%.
