  • Hi - I'm new here.  I've been scouring lots of endurance nation resources over the course of the past few months and have heard nothing but good things from current team members, so, I'm giving this a serious look as I put my plan together for IM LOU 2013.  Am looking forward to exploring the site!

    Thanks.

  • @ Chris, Katharine & Kate - Welcome to the Haus!

I started as plan member but swithched to full memberrship 2 weeks later. Looking back over the past 2 years I have to say it was likely the best investment I could have made for Tri training and I'm not done yet.

Be sure to spend a lot of time reading, there is just so much available and more comes every day it seems.

    Welcome aboard!

  • Hi All,

Another new trial member. I’m Helen, I live in London and I am a back of the pack triathlete contemplating another IM race next year.

I did my first half following a Crucible Fitness plan in 2007, IM Austria in 2008 with EN, IM Austria in 2010 with an EN style coached plan. In 2011 I took a year off, got fat and fixed my broken body. 2012 no mojo for racing/hard training/competing but did go on a fab 3 week mountain bike holiday in Peru (felt very strong but 0 speed).

Sold on the idea of high intensity/low volume but I am concerned about the run. I’m an inexperienced runner and run very slowly, too slowly for VDot score if I remember rightly from my failed attempt at an outseason plan. Racing experience tells me that I can’t mentally/physically make the jump from one or two 2.5 hour runs in the build up to an IM to a 5+ hour marathon at the end of an IM. I’m walking after 3.5 hours, partly physical in that I can’t make my body coordinate a running motion for that long but it’s also lack of self belief.

I am thinking about doing an IM race next year, possibly South Africa in April to combine racing and a holiday. I’m here to see what’s new at EN and if the new training plans will be a good fit for me and what the latest thinking about run training for super slow people is.

    Helen

  • Hi,

I'm Galen and I just finished my third triathlon season. First season in 2010 was two sprints. 2011 was 3 sprints and 3 Oly, including SF Tri at Alcatraz. 2012 was supposed to be about building speed and led to 2 sprint and 4 Oly. Unfortunately, America's Cup forced the cancellation of the Alcatraz race which really screwed up my season. I lost an "A" race and found training motivation hard to come by for about a month. But I got my training mojo back after the Golden Gate Splash and Dash -- one of the funnest things I've ever done. Overall, the 2012 season finished well, but April through June was tough with motivation and small injuries. I just experimented with a couple of races (e.g. going all-in on the bike to see how wasted I'd be on the run.)

This year is about moving up to HIM distance and IM in 2014. I want to break 5:30 on HIM and this is going to require that I seriously improve my run. I was looking at hiring a coach, but EN actually fits my style better. I'm closer to my ceiling on the bike, but who doesn't want a 15% increase in functional threshold?
  • Hi,
I've been looking at EN for the past several months as I get ready for IMLP 2013. I've been doing tri's since about '00, but primarily focusing on bike racing since '05. I did the inaugural IM ST George in '10, finished in 12:18 feeling great and like I could have gone much faster which is part of the reason I'm signed up for IMLP.

I did a static plan last time and I'm looking for a plan that will accommodate a busy work travel schedule as I move toward July. I really like what I've seen so far and I'm excited to join the team after my trial.

    Thanks,
    Joe
  • Hello! My name is Joseph and I am a father of 3, a husband and an Engineer from Madison, WI.

I have completed 4 IM's, I have had one DNF @ IMLou 2011 and a DNS at IMLou in 2012. Although I am currently in a walking cast and I think I will be starting slow. I am really looking forward to working with EN and getting to know everyone.
  • Welcome Joseph. My sister, Sue Chapman and I are also from Madison. Hope to meet you in the near future.
  •  Good afternoon EN. I would like to introduce myself. My name Is John Loudermilk from Ann Arbor Mi. I've been doing tri's for some years now. I say doing tri's  verus competing  in tri's because i feel I just haven't put all together. I took this year off and just ran my butt off with 2 ultra races. A 100 mile and 50 mile race. I enjoy my time running, it gave me time to think about how I would like to compete in a tri. My A race for 2013 will be IM Wisc. This will be my 4th time doing this race. I think with the right mine set and training I can put together a complete race.

  • John, welcome...

IMWI is gonna be huge this year with EN...There is a EN camp in Madison prior to the race. Coach Rich has that course dialed in for execution....
  • Hi everyone. New to EN and looking to see if it's the right fit for me. I've been drinking the Kool-Aid and reading all the free stuff on the site prior to today and so far it tastes good! I just finished my first tri season - 2 sprints, 1 oly, 2 HIM (Racine, Rev3 Wis Dells) and I'm running Chicago this weekend. I volunteered in Madison this year and signed up for IMWI 2013 the next day. I'm also planning to return to Racine in 2013 and avenge my GI issues on the run! I must admit the reality that I've actually registered for IMWI is starting to set in and I'm feeling in-over-my-head, nervous (already), you-name-it! But I'm excited at the same time. Hoping a team and a plan will be just what I need!
  • Hello All - i'm new to EN, but i have been listening to the podcasts and trying be best to incorporate the 4 keys. I'm 43 years old and from Parker, Colorado. I have a wife and 2 awesome children. I'm looking forward to joining EN and learning as much as i can from all of you. I'm relatively new to the tri scene as this past year was my first full season. I have completed 2 HIM and have decided to step up my game for 2013 by signing up for CDA. I'm gonna need all the help and advice i can get, but i' super excited as well. Can't wait to get started!
  • Hi, Mark. I'm from Littleton. We are getting a bigger Colorado contingency....awesome! Welcome!
  • Hello from NYC!

I'm a Cali guy who somehow found himself in New York, and I'm still trying to figure out how to balance the two or to get home.  I'm a long time triathlete and multi-ironman looking for a breakthrough.  After many years training alone and with coaching, I spent 2012 experimenting with things on my own and saw some big improvements. Many of my findings didn't align with the majority of coaching wisdon, but aligned perfectly with the EN guidance, so I'd rather not have to learn from my mistakes anymore.

Any folks in NYC or the Bay Area, give me a shoud out, since I spend a lot of time in both. Happy racing in the coming year!

    Cheers,

    Dan

  • Hi Everyone:

I'm Jennifer, located in Madison, WI. I am a slave to my two dogs and not much else. My brother introduced me to the sprint tri world last year at Lake Geneva and I vowed to never do another one. Fast forward to this year, lost some weight, working on the fitness, needed a better goal than just go to the gym, and signed up for another sprint tri, a duathlon and volunteered for IMWI. Needless to say, kinda hooked now. Looking forward to racing in Racine in July.

    Jennifer
  • Hi Jennifer welcome to the haus. My sister, Sue Chapman and I are also from Madison. We look forward to meeting you in the near future. Racine and IMWI will be big contingency of EN peeps.

  •  Hello Everyone

I am Carlos Sanchez, I live in Coppell Tx. I am a father of 2 and I just recently signed up for my first IM, CDA.

I am running the NYC Marathon in a few weeks, then Disney Marathon, then IM 70.3 Lonestar

  • Hello!

I'm Ben Vanmarcke, been doing triathlon for 3 years now. Last race this season was IM St George (pure survival) and since then my fitness has disappeared as life got in the way. I am currently relocating from Southern California to North-East Ohio and due to all the stress from the move my fitness got traded for body fat.

Right now, I've got good goals for next year (sub 5h HIM, and do something great at IM WIsconsin) but I'm so far off track I need some support and guidance, especially since I'll have to learn to train indoors or in cold weather. I've trained successfully with EN training plans before and know Rich personally so this is the best way to get back on track. (I came in through the member drive but chose to become a regular member right away).

Other info, 36 years old, married and father of an awesome 2 year old son named Jason. :-)
  • Hi,

My name is Julie Paquette.  I live in Ottawa, Canada.   I am primarily a marathon runner converted to triathlete.  I completed Escape from Alcatraz in June 2011 and did 1 full Ironman (Mont Tremblant) and 2 half Ironman (Syracuse and World Championships) in 2012.

I had a coach this year and he helped me well in my preparation for this year's race season.  However, I would like to adopt a different training philosophy for 2013.  From what I have read so far, EN seems to have a philosophy that fits with my lifetyle, priorities and goals.  As a result, I decided to sign up for the free trial membership in order to learn more and to see if EN is what I am looking for.

I am looking forward to meeting many of you online.  I train essentially alone and therefore I look forward to the network of people created by this forum.

    Julie

  • Hey all,

Welcome to all the new members!

I'm back now, after a 1-year hiatus from EN. Registered for IM Lake Tahoe in 2013, which will be my 4th IM (IMWI '06 & '09, IMCdA '10). Great to see more new faces from Madison recently! I currently live in Madison, hoping to head out west (CO?, CA?, OR?, or all of the above?) in 2013. I mean it this time...
  • @Michele - so cool that you're back!! RnP - Michele is a HUGE reason why I joined EN! Now, about leaving ... we don't want you to go ... but know your heart is out west!

@All New Members - Welcome!! Can't wait to meet many of you in Madison!
  • @Sue, @Michele, @Mary: Yeah Madison Ladies! Thanks for the welcome!
  • Hi Everyone!

I just joined today on the trial at the recommendation of Ryan Miller. This past January I ran my first marathon, and this season I completed my first Tri's (4), all sprints. I am planning on a HIM next season. I only started running less than three years ago, and I am looking forward to making progress with an actual plan. Work life balance is important so a plan that takes this into account is important to me.

I have twin 8 year old boys, both of whom compete in Triathlon's. One won his age group in a 5K last weekend, 22nd overall.

Hopefully I am providing a good example to them. I want them to know that with hard work and commitment anything can be accomplished.

  •  Where in Iowa are you from? I just joined EN today and looking forward to getting back in shape and ready for my first Ironman. I am in the Quad cities.

  • @Aaron-
Not sure who your question is addressed to, but there are a few of us in Iowa here. I'm just north of Iowa City. CR has a couple people, too, and one East Moliner.

Under the Community dropdown menu there is a member map, so you can see who's around you. Pretty cool!

    @Sue/@Michele/@Mary/@Jennifer-
I LOVE Madison. I'm very jealous!
  • Hey there team!!

Another new member here. I live in central Seattle, any other members around here? I'm pretty new to long course triathlon having only completed my first event longer than an Oly last month (Leadman Epic 125 in Bend, OR) but I am hooked! I am doing IM CDA 2013 and could not be more excited about it. I am originally from Post Falls, ID (15 minutes from CDA) so it's like racing on my home course!

Looking forward to meeting everyone online and then cheering them on on race day!

    -Andy
  •  @ Andy - there are 5-10 of us in greater pugetopolis. Click on "Member Map" under the Community tab above and follow the instructions to find who and where. There are at least four of us in the Tacoma area, and others closer to you.

  • Hi all - Sipping the Kool-aid and enjoying the vibe here...

I am a newbie to the scene having just started over the summer with a sprint and oly aquabike. This next year I am looking to build confidence and a foundation by focusing on Sprint and Olys. (Also, with things like a career and family, not sure I can devote the time to go 70.3.)

So, who here is focused on short course events? Any thoughts and advice on how to make EN work best?

    Thanks,

    Todd

  • Cecking out EN and hoping it is what I need. I have been coached in the past and self-coached for the last part of this past season. Coming from a swim background and being a swim coach myself, I'm ok in that realm but need help mostly with the run. I wasn't a runner until about 7 years ago and I still don't consider myself a runner. Looking forward to working hard and getting faster. One day, I'd like to be on the podium image
  •  Joined ENTeam in 2010 to prepare for IM France and Vineman Full which were my first irondistance races.  Saw Patrick for the first time during the run at IM Florida 2011.  The fan support at that race was great.  Self coached this year to win my AG 50-54 at Philippines 70.3. Looking forward to improving my FTP.  Hope to get enough speed to qualify for Kona.

    George

  • Hi everyone, just checking out the team and looking forward to everything EN has to offer. I have been doing triathlon and some duathlon since 2007 and I would like to do my first full IM in 2013. Looking forward to working with Coach Patrick and Coach Rich and meeting all the EN members!

I am in the Tampa Bay area so hopefully there are some local members down here in FL!
