  • I was thinking about starting to do the pushup thing anyway and this is perfect timing. I'm in.

hey can we get a fresh link to add in our names, ?? thanks. I did day one today. and yesterday's swim hurt from the initial test!! image

Is this what you're after, Marianne?

Should be fine to just cut and paste the link into a new window, and then add away. Unless there are tech issues I'm missing ... it's quite possible that the raw computing power required to calculate Patrick's cumulative total is dragging down the rest of the system.

  • Pushup Fever - Catch it!

    -30+ participants
-a cumulative 2043 EN pushups in the bank
-have to think of some kind of contest to make this interesting over the holidays. Shortlist: -One-to-one Pushup / eggnog chug contest ----Special 'Festivus Feats of Strength' demo ------ 'no gift exchange XMas morning until you've knocked out a solid set of 50' promo ----

(list still needs some work. will do between making homemade holiday moonshine and mailing cards)

  • I'm in. I'll start tomorrow.

    Fred
  • I am off the plan, but on the challenge. Using some of the P90X workouts to try to get up to the 100. Arms about ready to fall off now after 3-days. First day I managed 110 pushups split over 12 sets the included standard, military, decline, narrow grip, wide grip, etc. Yesterday, no push-ups, but a lot of triceps extension work. Mama.
  • Okay, so the paperwork challenge says that if you get 30+ in your first test, then you can skip to week 3. Well, I got the first week 3 workout done just fine, but I couldn't get the 2nd one. I'm such a wuss!

With that said, I'm moving back to week 2 to start over. PHEW!
  • Late to the party, but I'm totally in! Managed to quietly get to 40, then was breathing harder and shaking as I got to 50. This attracted the attention of my 4yr old son, who instinctively ran in, jumped on my back and yelled to his sister, "Dad's doing pushups!!!" I collapsed in a heap. I'd love to say he cut me short, but I was already toast. image

Can't wait to start on the 21st!
  • Thanks the link worked and my data has been entered.... did my pushups outside, on a mat, after a run with the dog in 30ish degree weather but in the sun, the irish setter kept coming over to check on me! either to grab my hair while I bobbed up and down or generally to wonder what in the world I was doing. he was soaking wet having just jumped in the river... so I really didn't want him close.

  • Hey, how about combining this with a max pullups goal? Could just add Day 1, 2, 3 pullups columns to the existing spreadsheet. I plan to do 4 sets of pullups on M,W,F, sets of pushups on Tue, Thurs, Sat, core work every evening, Sundays off.

    What say you?

I got in 4 x 8 + 10' of core during the evening news, scratching dog ears as active recovery between sets image

Sounds cool - I'll work it up on the sheet this weekend. But until they figure out a girly-man version of the pullup, I'm sticking with just getting through my 100 pushups!

And thanks for noting the core stuff - from what I could see, the 100 'plan' is silent on what you're supposed to do during the rest interval, and this is a GREAT way to keep the HR up and make it into a damn time-efficient session.

Last, I'll also get some kinda 'NBC Kona broadcast' challenge going. That'll give me something to think about when I'm fighting the madding crowds at the mall tomorrow AM ...

  • 32 on the first try... little scared about starting at week three. Should be fun -- looking forward to the pullup portion too.

    Del
  • I've already been doing my own pullup challenge! I do my crunches in the rest intervals between pushups and pullups. If I can hit 100 pullups I'm going to be really impressed.

Whoah there cowboy- no hijacking this challenge! Let's not over complicate a good thing. I think this needs to be a separate challenge- and you better figure out a way for the ladies to participate (Don't go making me feel inadequate now 'cause suddenly I can't keep up with the boyz)! Seems to me this needs to be lined up with your ENPFT Challenge so that whatever that "Test" is ultimately going to be, this falls in line.image
  • I have been watching this thread for the past week and finally just can't resist. I have convinced my wife and 10-year old son, who is a gymnast and can probably already do 100, to join us. Plan on doing the initial test this weekend while watching the snow fall here in the North East.
  • I am in on this. This will be a good add in to the January OS start!

I've never been able to do pull ups either? Is there a 'pull-ups for idiot site too?
  • This definitely gets harder everyday. But I guess that's the point. On the plus side, some of the tightness and spasm in my lats is gone. I'd like to think it has turned to muscle bulk to make this easier! Truly the best part is that this has forced me to be really work on stretching my shoulders.

  • Dec. 20 - I have put this off as long as I can.

I HATE pushups! I'm in image
  • did 15 yesterday.... glad more are joining
  • Got 57 done this am!! This is fun, I am liking the push upsimage
  • Did Day 3 of week 1 yesterday and got 42 pushups in. My traps are killing me!
  • OMG, day 2 is already killing me. No problem with the first two sets, but three got harder and four was really rough. Took a lot of mental fortitude to get the the number on set five, and just hit the minimum. I think Coach P was laying back on his test with the numbers he put up for day 2. LOL.

    Dave
  • You guys are CRUSHING it! Keep up the good work and keep the reports rolling!

And Rich - I want to create a weighted score on the spreadsheet to record pullups using the same metric as a pushup. I'm thinking this would let everyone be talking the same language based on the end goal of achieving 100 pushups.

    So ... 1 pullup = X pushups?
  • OK - last man in here - one more christmas party and I'll do the test - I could mayyyyyyybe see getting to 100 push ups (when pigs fly) - but the 100 pull up thing ........I'll need pixie dust !!

I have gotten my aluminum pole out. When will the airing of grievances occur?
  • Ok. My baseline is set. A measly 16.
  • I'm going stir crazy not being able to do anything else.... therefore I'm in as well. Looks like I will be a week behind though.

Inital test today was 27 ... one footed image
  • Initial test this evening...46. Oct OS + 100PU program here we go!
  • Week 3 day 1 in the books with 48 total. OUCH!!!! Seriously, I'm starting to have trouble sleeping! My shoulders, neck, & back are killing me!
  • Nemo - you and I are neck and neck on this one! I used to be so much stronger, and I'm looking forward to getting stronger again!
