Posted By Nemo Brauch on 21 Dec 2009 11:36 AM Week 3 day 1 in the books with 48 total. OUCH!!!! Seriously, I'm starting to have trouble sleeping! My shoulders, neck, & back are killing me!
Wow, Nemo, you are already on week 3! Just starting week 2, day 1 tomorrow.
Posted By Dave Tallo on 21 Dec 2009 06:58 PM Moved from Column 3 to Column 2: acknowledged that my form was terrible and I was really cutting corners on the quality just to get the count in.
Observation: pushups are hard.
Wait! Aren't you the guy that suggested this??: I feel better already.
I finally did the test yesterday and cranked out 50 before my body pump class, did another 85 today-finally something I am good at. All on my toes, just for the record, none of that modified stuff for this chick
Stoopid question. I started a week late, should I be updating week one or updating week two (even though this is really my first week). Ps. I'm not looking forward to day one.

@ Geoff, there were more than a few people who started a week late, so I just revised the sheet to refer to generic "Week 1," "Week 2" and so forth. I'd just start week 1.
(This will also accommodate the future wave of the "100 pushup New Years Resolution" crowd!)
@ Rich, I've added a new tab for a pullup tracker in the same file. I monkeyed around with including it all on the same spreadsheet, but the real estate was getting too dear. Let me know if this fits the bill.
And to all, keep up the fantastic work - those numbers are amazing!

Yeah, but I was also the weakling kid who got the 'participation award' instead of a gold, silver or bronze award in national/provincial fitness tests. And who had to take a 'special' phys ed class in grade 4 for inactive kids (it was me, a kid with leg braces and another kid whose dad owned a candy factory.)
So pushups have never been a strength ... and what better reason could there be for a challenge?
See I was always the short kid so I had to make up for it, I only made it to 5 foot. All my kids are bigger than me, but they all call me the beast! So much better than being the beauty-my favorite weight lifting shirt I own I may not be very smart, but I can lift heavy things. We all have to be good at something
Posted By Kristen Olson on 22 Dec 2009 08:40 PM Is anyone else going to join me in the pullups challenge? Coach Rich? I started them at the same time as the pushup challenge so it's week 2 for me.
Hey Kristen...look what I just found in the attic...
...the original pull-up bar! It had about 12 years worth of dust on it (I don't think I've used it since college) and I'm sure my wife will be just thrilled to see it hanging in our bedroom, but needless to say I'm in for the pull up challenge! I just did my initial test and got 13.
And what's up with Rich suggesting this and then going MIA...geeze!
Dedication to the challenge... I slept in. No cardio work. Did Day 2 Week 2 before getting into shower to go to work. This is hard, but I actually see improvement. Although I think that doing plankwork on the in between days is actually making this harder. I will avoid plank work and see if Friday is easy
*I don't see another spreadsheet for situps, squats or pullups. and I don't have a bar to pull up on so not going to do that one. Some of you are really knocking these out of the ballpark!! way to go. m
I know the challenge said sign up by 12/20, but I'm assuming there is a grace period for new guys. Planning to do my initial test in the morning. This could be interesting.
Posted By Matt Ancona on 23 Dec 2009 02:54 PM Ok...i'm in for the pull ups as well. Where do we find the workouts for the pulls, the website said coming soon?
Good question. Can you or any other WSMs sketch out a program? I have absolutely no idea what it would take to build up to 25 pullups.

It's about Pavel Tsatsouline, who apparently is "The Man" when it comes to pullups. I see his name mentioned in most of the internet articles about pullups. It echoes everything else I've read, that says to do a similar approach to our Hundred Pushups program. High volume, just shy of muscle failure. Lots of reps, up to 75% of your max pullups, 1-2 times a day, 2-3 times a week.

Kristen- yeah I saw that! It encourages me to see your posts right next to min on the spreadsheet! We are in this together!
Did 48 to start, mMy 8yo did 14 and husband did 40, he had a lot of shoveling yesterday.
Shaky shaky arms right now.

108 pullups - Nice work! Looks like Rich has some catching up to do ...
Also, my wife is joining me too! She didn't do the test, but did one more than me today! Ok--lay it on me!

An interesting article here:
