Who's in for the G. Chris Gleason F1 duathlon at American Zofingen next year?

Chris egged me on so many times to come up and do this race that I finally broke down and signed up.  I know we've got several EN'ers on the registrant list.  Who's in?

  •  For those considering it, Chris' race report for the short course in 2010 is here

Pete's race report for the long course is here

Chris' race report for the F1 in 2011 is here

If that doesn't get you fired up, nothing will!

  • Man, I can't tell you how bad I want to. Logistics will be tough for me, tho. I'm gonna do everything I can to get there. Hope & pray it works out.
  • I'm in for the F1. Peter is as well.
  • I've got to try and figure out a way to come back from Wildflower and somehow get the wife to let me head up to do this. Will see!!

How soon you think you have to be registered by? Does it fill up?
  • I don't believe it fills up very quickly, at least the Long Course. When I did it there were only 40 racers. Sounds like we just might have a very strong showing. This is becoming super encouragement to get the training in!!

  • I just read Chris G's Race Report and now really want to figure out how to do this race...
  • @Trent, sent the RD a message on Slowtwitch. Will let you know when i hear.
  • Trent and everyone, RD says he thinks it will fill up this week. I believe he was refering to the F1, middle distance race which has been renamed for Chris.

Withrow, just sign up, though it would have been fun to watch you beat Dinhofer in the TT.
  • So, are we all in for the middle distance race? @ Tucker.... Now you can whip me yourself!!
  • Just signed up - middle distantce.
  • That looks truly awesome! I am putting that on my calendar for 2013. Unfortunately, I am doing TTT that weekend this coming year. (which is also an awesome weekend of racing!)

Looking forward to reading everyone's reports from the 2012!

    ---Ann.
  • I just signed up for the middle distance, i think that is the F1??
  • Chris bugged me about this every year, so I feel like I should be going as well. I have the same issue as Trent and am doing Wildflower LC 2 weeks before and another 70.3 two weeks after, but I'm going to try and get permission to do this one as well. Might as well see if I can race on both sides of the country in May.

I know nothing about the area or logistics. Where is the closest major airport? How far of a drive? Hotels easy to get/cheap? Anyone looking to share a room/car/whatever?
  • Matt, I am in. We'll make it work for you both...if you guys are in, we'll have a massive contingent and get the shuttle going. image we could use some studs out there to represent vs the ST contingent!
  • Yes let's get some more people into this race. Matt, you can always fly into Newark and go up with me or some of the other NJ guys. Probably more flights and cheaper too to there. We'll work out rooms as well I'm sure. I'm sure we'll have a couple of empty drawers for Matt and Trent to sleep in.....

Only caveat is that you are the designated driver.

  • Going to run it by hubby tonight. It is a long weekend in Canada and my Bday the day before the race. Looks like it might be in the cards.
  • Brenda it is in New Paltz NY. South of Albany. Act now, spots are going fast.
  • I want to do this, but I need help figuring out the right race to register for since I've got IMCDA on the calendar a few weeks later.
  • Ok All (espacially Tucker and P) I'm going to take a leap and sign up and hope all the travel, rooms, everything else that can be done cheaply will work themselves out.
  • For those on the fence, sign up. The race fills at a total number, not by distance. You can change your mind a week before the race. Just get signed up!
  • I am in. Chris bugged me to do the harriman , F1 double that he was thinking off . Not sure if I am up for that. But I will do the F1 and hope to recover for eagleman .
  • @mancona - i am doing wildflower, this & Mooseman, all within 4 or 5 weeks, i am planning on doing most of these as big training days. fly to newark or any NYC airport and one of us will fetch you, though i think Newark will be easiest with the NJ crowd.

we ought to work on a hotel that we all go to.
there isnt much in new paltz, best bet is probably south in Newburgh.
if everyone can post their rooming requirements, willingness to share, etc, i can work on trying to secure a place and see what is out there...

Mike G makes a very good point, they will let you switch your distance up to a week before the race, so just get signed up!!!

rates are all over the place, nothing "cheap"
have to stay in either kingston (north) or Newburgh (south) both are about 18 miles away. anyone want to a search online and pick a place? or at least suggest if we stay south or north?

  • In, but quite worried about the trail run as these ankles don't like uneven surfaces.
  • I don't know what the registration limit is, but looks like they are up around 160+ folks so far. I'm in, for, uh, something and I'm up for sharing a room with someone.
  • OK - Just saw this (have been offline a bit lately) and immediately signed up for the middle distance....
  • You guys/girls are such f'ing bullies! I just signed up for the Middle Distance to reserve my slot, but nobody tell my wife! I need to figure out how to break it too her at the right time... I still think I'm likely to switch to the Iron-TT because that sounds much more interesting to me and more likely to appropriately fit into my training for next yr, but I'm in for one way or the other and will share many beers after the race with my EN family!
  • Wow, what a response! I can't believe no one has jumped on the Long Course. I know the F1 is the dedicated race and Chris's favorite, but he always respected, and thought a bit crazy, those who tackled the LC. I just might switch over to try and improve on my first attempt, as well as some EN representation.

    Pete
  • @Pete- If you end up being the only one going long, I may just jump over to the long course too and join ya and the crazies.

@Nemo- I bet Kittboo, You , and I can find rooms to get in. image

Chris would be proud of the way the team is representing!!
  • @ tucker - I will do whatever Withrow does to ensure you are entertained, we have plenty of time to work it out. In the mean time I am an planning an EN party for February timeframe in Westchester, who wants to come over and drink my beer?
