@ Scott - I didn't book anything yet. Waiting for call back from Lexington group sales dude. I think they have plenty of rooms and I'm swagging a group rate to be in the $135-145 range. This is on or just off the bike route and a short ride into New Paltz.
I won't be able to make it to the NE that weekend to play with y'all in the official event, but will plan on doing my own informal DU, on the same date, with the middle distance distances, here at home, in Chris' honor.
I'm in the Albany area, so I'm thinking there is not excuse not to do this race. I'm doing Rev3 Quassy a couple of weeks later, but what the heck. Chris was in our local tri-club and unfortunately I was just getting to know him between that and Placid this summer, but from that short period I could tell he was a great guy. Sounds like this will be a great event especially with a bunch of EN'rs showing up!
Scott- if we can't fly to NY for the pain, we'll just have to crush it at home. Bottom line, a few hours doing what Gleason would have us doing. I think, or maybe he'd have us hanging at the pub...
Oh crap; after talking my wife and six months old baby into letting me do this race; I find out while signing up that this is going on on the same weekend as Columbia tri... Thinking about bailing on Columbia to join the team for this. Now the question is do I tell my wife while I try to decide... I am pretty sure I know what she will say...
2) We need a central lodging location. No point in being 40 miles apart. I designate Pete J to be a co-race captain with Tucker "O Captain My Captain" McKeever.
3) Please find us the best possible location that is close to the race venue that can handle our squad and has beer nearby (mandatory).
4) Once you do that we'll book it out.
5) I will get John to make a race registrant sheet for connecting / tracking purposes.
6) I will ask John to make a group Am Zof 2012 for all of this madness...please join that group so we can post all the relevant info to the right folks. Thanks Team!
@ John -- so can we set up a tab for those of us that will not be there physically, but will be mentally, and who are going to "hurt" together from afar in order to capture the totals?

@Paul - So make May 20th, 2012, an official team-wide memorial day? I proposed similar to Patrick but made it earlier in the year. To do it all on the same day as AZ event would be a killer idea.
@ john, i think i am the race captain at this point, perhaps with Peter G who seems to know the area and has scouted out a good pub/bar for dinner the night b4
@Beth - maybe. I know Trent is and sort of one the way. Dan is in as well and has to pass us to get there.
My initial thought was to watch for deals on airfare and hopefully get a cheap flight and find someone I can ship my bike to, and then bum a ride from NJ to the race .... just so that I can take less time off work and be away less. However, if that doesn't work out, I would be in for a road trip from the midwest to save some money.

Ya da man! I will stand down. Let me know if you need anything from me going forward.
I'd love to go but have a major trip planned for a few days later.
BUT, if people are wanting to do a DIY AZ in or near Chicago perhaps we can get a large group of people together and do a mass DIY AZ. I'm sure we can find a road ride/trail run that will work. Anyone interested?
@Scott, I'm kidding. I figured you and I run this show. You have better knowledge of the area. I have better knowledge of the important stuff Chris liked, namely drinking and having fun.
Everyone, this will be a great time. Let's not overthinking k this too much right now. Anyone who is not local just needs to worry about getting here with a bike. We will find hotel rooms. If you fly in Friday you can stay with me or I k ow some of my NJ crew has room and Scott as well. We should have enough in the way of cars to transport everyone up to the race area. We will have a dinner Saturday, the brewpub sounds appropriate. Anyone coming Friday and staying in NJ we will have something. Most likely lots of drinks.
OK, been chatting with P. In conjunction with this AZ event, let's make May 12, 2012 the Chris Gleason Tribute Training/Race Day or something like that. A world wide EN event. Post pics from where we did our WORK, etc. Maybe the pic include a flower or something?
Coach P's Requirments:
"Components are it must be hard....you must go as hard as you can. You have to talk smack beforehand. You must drink a beer afterwards."
@ tucker - i know the area, as to say, i stopped at denny's on my way up to hunter mountain after i got my license at 17! other than that i have driven through on the Thruway!
Also, just to keep everyone informed, Pete Joachim is expecting a call back from the lex (hotel in Kingston) on a group rate. What I have found in New Paltz is that the hotels are doing 2 night minimums because of the SUNY NP graduation weekend. There are also not alot of hotels in Newburgh because of their proximity to West Point and their graduation weekend. Looks like we are going to do this in Kingston...
anyone know of a good place to do dinner in Kingston for Saturday night??!!!
Nemo: go to google maps & look up New Paltz new york. the closest airports (which you probably cannot fly direct to) are Stewart Airport in Newburgh & Albany (NY) Airport.
for direct flights you can fly to Newark, LaGuardia or JFK. is it you and Mr Nemo? or you alone? if you are alone, you can fly to LGA for me, or to Newark for Tucker, and we can figure out fetching you, I or he can put you up Friday night, get you to and from the race, etc. even if it is you and Mr Nemo, we can probably still accommodate you!
if you want to ship your bike ahead, i have a LBS that will take bikes, assemble them, then repack after and smack on your shipping label for $50 total. (shipping not included)
feel free to email me direct or call me for more info sd@twgco.com 917-848-2335
OK I officially have 2 new best friends: Tucker because we need good beer (you know what I mean) and Chris would only want it that way, and Scott You the man on area and can help get our 12K bikes there safe and sound.
GREATEST TEAM EVA!!!!
Just let me know where to fly in to and what time.... I'll let you guys handle the rest. Except the serious beer drinking after the race that will be epic.
