  • Trent, you're covered. We got you. You can stay with me after the beer comment.

All, I've amended the spreadsheet to add a few columns for out of towners. Please add the day, (i.e. - Friday) you arrive, time, and to what airport. Thanks
  • Sorry, I've been offline for a while due to work/life. I'm looking forward to this weekend to catch up with everyone since I haven't been on here for a while.

    What's the latest on logistics?

Should I book a room at the Lexington for Saturday night and find a roommate?

I know MattSull is looking as well so I can book for both of us to cover Saturday night.

Would anyone be willing for me to ship my bike to them directly from Wildflower in early May?

  • Matt you can ship to me. mckeetu@yahoo.com for address.
  • I've also got a room a bit south of the race (close to Newburgh), which has plenty of room for 1-2 more.
  • I'd gladly look to share a room if someone has a spot available. I'll be there sometime on Saturday.

  • I've got a room on Sat night with an opening.
  • Hey Cary---sold if you don't mind. Just let me know where the hotel is and it's a done deal. Thanks, I appreciate it.
  • You guys are awesome.

@Tucker - I'll email when it's time to figure out shipping logistics.

@Mike - Count me (and maybe MattSull in). I'll PM you.
  •  Hey Mike...just a thought...I also reserved a room down in Newburgh before everyone landed at the Lexington hotel...I'm driving up on Saturday...2 thoughts...if you interested and don't end up having others need space...we could cancel one reservation and split the cost ...or cancel them both and split a reservatoin at the Lexington...just an idea...no worries if you just want to leave things as is.

  • @keithwick - you're in - I've got a room at the Lexington. PM me or get my details from the spreadsheet.
  • Looking for a little logistics help/advice from anyone who has some course knowledge. I'm planning on doing the middle distance race. I understand there will be trail running and the bike will be hilly. But here's the rub.

I've got the Kinetic Half IM (aka Lake Anna) scheduled for the weekend before AMZOF (no- I wouldn't normally book my schedule this way- but I'm doing AMZOF for Chris- and well, it's how he would have rolled). So I'll need a bike that weekend.

There's a really good chance I will not be able to bring a bike on the plane with me, because the planes will be commuter/regional props/jets (I've run into this problem before). So I may need to ship a bike via FedEx and I don't think there will be enough time to pack up my bike from the race on Sunday and get it to NY/NJ by Friday (or at least without costing $$$$$).

I have 2 bikes, the TT Bike, and a Cross bike (which I could put road wheels on).

Sooooo- the question is, for those of you who know the course, would the cyclocross bike be a reasonable option for the AMZOF course? Or should I really try to get the TT bike there. Note, I'm not going trying to win anything- I'm just doing this race for fun as a way to celebrate Chris's life.
  • Nemo,

What I've heard from friends that have done this course is a road bike is not a bad option.
  • @Nemo-- How tall are you? My wife has a Trek Madone (105 equipped) you could use. She normall rides a 51cm TT bike, but this one is a WSD 54cm. It's nothing fancy, but I'm sure I could get it to the race site for you if you just want to have a fun go at it. You'd probably need to bring your pedals and your preferred saddle, but that would be easier than hauling a whole bike.

@EveryoneElse-- Does this bike course have any dirt or rocky sections? Is this a Training Wheels race or a Fancy Carbon wheels race?
  • @John,

A google image search shows lots of people using carbon wheels, but it also shows things like riding in the mud: http://teambikeway.blogspot.com/201...ge-rr.html and http://theramblingsofanendurancejun...sweat.html.

    I'm thinking training wheels.

  • @Nemo: Having done the long distance before I would say a road bike is a very good option. There is some decent amount of climbing, with a few nice descents.

@John: The first and last 1/4 mile out/into the park is hard packed dirt and gravel. Could be mud depending on the weather leading up to the race. The rest of it is open road, fairly smooth but rough in some areas. I would say trainer wheels are most commonly used.
  • Thanks folks, sounds like the road bike would work. John- I'm barely 5'2" and usually ride a 48cm, but thank you for the offer.
  • @Nemo and others: There is a really good LBS in downtown New Platz. I am sure that those who need to ship a bike can probably have it go directly there and they would reassemble. Catskills Mountain Multisport -- http://www.cm2store.com/. They are the sponsors of the race, btw.
  • @withrow - is that in addition to the bike you are lending Stephanie Stevens?
@anyone shipping a bike, i have a LBS local to me in Armonk NY that is a cervelo/specialized/canondale dealer, they will take the bike shipments and assemble for you, whether or not you are staying on my side of the river on Friday night, i can drive it up to the event for you.
@everyone, if anyone wants to stay in westchester on Friday night, tons of room here, i am picking up stephanie stevens at LGA in the afternoon and can grab people from JFK or LGA, i think Cary Blanco may stay with us as well and given his location, he can probably do airport pickups as well.

does anyone have the contact info for group rate at lexington? i still need to make a reservation, i have a roomie...
  • @Scott-- Yes. Stephanie is taking the Blue Triad. But the road bike offer is still open for others if they need it since it's too big for Nemo.
  • Hi guys reposting this here because of relevance.

60 days from today I race Paul Comuso in the 2nd annual 10-mile Battle Of Broad Street. This year, we are collecting "bets" on the outcome of the race and donating it all to Chris' family. PLEASE visit our page, read our story, and donate. Every little bit helps. Those donating over $20 will receive a commemorative souvenir keychain/bottle opener designed and donated specifically for this occasion.

  • It goes to eleven.
  • Just wanted to post that I've booked my flights. I'm coming into Newark on Friday at 6:30pm and leaving Monday at 9:00am. I tried to make the flights as close to Matt and the Chicago crew as possible to make it easier on the locals who are shuttling us around. Big thanks to Mike G who is hooking me up with a road bike for the race!
  • 1) To get the discounted rate at the HUDSON VALLEY RESORT & SPA call 845-626-8888 ask for Leanna Roland at ext: 3035 and mention Endurance Nation - the total with tax is $164.02/night

    2) Just found out the Brooklyn Half is the day before - I'm not that much of a masochist - BKLN will have to wait 'till next year

    3) I'm staying in Putnam Valley on Friday night so I'll be unavailable for Airport Pickups, but I can probably do Sunday Evening drop-offs. Can everyone list their flights on the google docs spreadsheet?
  • Just as a heads up for Tucker-- I am on the same flight as mancona

@Trent I have a great in house mechanic who will look after your precious baby.  But I must say, she'll want to ride it, especially since I'm sure it will fit her!

  • Updated the google doc with my flight info. Big thanks to all the locals for helping out with these logistics!
  • @Tucker- Ok she will be fine riding it as she will do it justice and actually be able to ride it as fast as you are supposed to. You on the other hand ............
  • All-- really disappointed but had a major tradgety in the family this weekend. Doris's ( my wife) sister was killed in a traffic accident on her way back from taking her kids and ours to school yesterday. As you might expect from her taking our kids she was very close to the family. We have taken in the kids for now and don't know all arraignments yet for funeral so I have canceled all trip to new York and the Chris G memorial race. I know with out a doubt that Chris will understand and I'll be back another day. Wish though I could experience it with you all this time around.
