If I have it calculated correct there are only about 30 slots left. Lets see if we can fill them with EN. BTW, even though they have been relatively quiet I have noticed that the Boyle's have signed up as well.
I've also got a reservation at the Homewood Suites about 25 miles south of the race in New Windsor, New York (near Newburgh airport). Pull out couch, could easily put someone up if interested.
If I remember correctly some other event also happens in New Paltz this same weekend. It is a big college town and me be graduation or something like that. Rooms are very hard to come by close to course. Last time I had to go way out to Poughkeepsie. I just reserved a room at http://www.lexingtonhotels.com/property.cfm?idp=22011, which is located right on the backside of the race course. It looked like they had a few rooms left. I would suggest grabbing them if possible.
I am once again caving to the EN peer pressure....I just pulled the trigger. NOT telling my husband about it for awhile. Any ladies want a roommate? I'll have to figure out the travel stuff....
I was told no way am I allowed to sign up for any more races d/t the nice expense of the one's I have. Let me know how I can be of assistance. I would be more than happy to donate to the crew going/meeting.
Looks like a total blast and sorry I am not able to join the crew.
@ Carl - I'm in a similar boat, not giving up yet, tho. However, if it doesn't work out, I have a backup plan.....
I have a gorgeous 4 mil hilly trail loop near Lake Lanier. I have good cycling in this area, too. You see where I'm going with this.
If I can't make it to upstate NY, I will do a GCG Memorial Cup right here, same day, same time. Won't be as good as being there with everyone and helping Jenny out, but if it's all I can give...... Maybe raise some $, I know I can get some other buddies to do it with me, too. And I'll see if I can get some of the local EN'ers to join.
Thank you to everyone for the offers to help with logistics for those of us that have to travel, i'm interested in sharing rooms/couchs/floors/cars/etc to save on the expenses.
@ Chris -- so I can't make the trek to NY, but could drive down to GA to do your plan with you. I know there are others in the southeast, anyone up for having a second option?
Thank you to everyone for the offers to help with logistics for those of us that have to travel, i'm interested in sharing rooms/couchs/floors/cars/etc to save on the expenses.
@Matt, I know we have at least 6 in the NJ crew who are in, plus Dinhofer from NY, between all of us we will have more than enough cars/trucks. We'll work on housing and keep everyone posted.
I'm part of the NJ crew heading up, now official. Signed up for middle distance. Felt like I had to be a part of this one, and the team buzz is outstanding
@ Paul - very cool! Spread the word to your locals, EN and others. As I said, same day and time, let me check with my better half and I might be able to put a few up at our place if you don't mind a couch. We're very close to this 'course' so it would be ez logistics. And, I'll scope out a good 30 mile bike course to go with the 4 mile trail run loop. Transition area (pickup trucks in parking area) will be safe and ez, too.
With the burgeoning "DIY AmZof" crowd, I'm thinking that we should get in touch with the RD to find a way to acknowledge the "AmZof @ home" participants, either on the website, or with at least a mention at the afterparty, with Chris' family there. It would be a great way to expand the reach and impact of the race, and the memorial.
@ Mike - agreed, I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure it would be cool for his family to see the recognition extending far beyond the Catskills. Not to mention the legal obligation towards the RD. Although, as far as I've picked up from the ST thread, I doubt he'll have any prob with it. When get a few moments, I'll shoot him a PM and see how it's received.
Love the DIY idea...I am IN for that, ...Wish I could make it to NY, but its just not in the cards..
How many states across the country, how many countries can we have participate from home to honor Chris. That could be a cool stat to mention on race day.
I'm with Nate and Chris on the DIY thingy.... I was bumming cuz I can't make AmZof but I do have a suitable local option with my dooryard as the staging area.
My setup has a 2.3 mile trail run (x2) and a number of bike options including a 27 mile loop or an out and back up to what ever is needed. I was thinking middle distance: 4.6 - 27 - 4.6 - 27 - 4.6
I may even be able to get a few of my local tir-buds to join me in CG's honor.
given that Mike G has already staked out a room in Newburgh area, i suggest everyone does the same. we should get a headcount for a saturday night dinner? invite the STers also?
Scott good idea. You seem to be most local can you scout out a few places? Assume head count of 25-30. See what we have as options. I Chris have you contacted the RD? I have chatted with him this week and would be more than happy to reach out to him about the virtual race as well as seeing what they have planned for the day before. Most importantly I think is that we get his family on board and invite them. Apparently his wife and sister are considering doing the race. Anyone else have any ideas?
I called the hotel that Pete G made a reservation at (Lexington) - its closer to the race site - but I'm guessing alot less places to choose from to do a Sat group dinner than in the Newburgh area where Mike G got a room . But they said they would be willing to block rooms and give us a group rate. If you guys want to pursue this I will call and see what they would charge for a block of say - 10-15 rooms - think that would cover it?
Also - for anyone flying into Newark, NJ - if you need a place to stay on either end of the weekend to work w/your flight schedule - I have an xtra bedroom that will only cost you a frosty beer.
Pete: new paltz is almost right smack in the middle of Kingston & Newburgh. So, going up to Kingston is a bit further for all of us coming from the south. That said, If we get his family at a dinner and they are not staying local, it is closer to them to be in Kingtson. I think we all need to make a call as to if we are going to lodge in kingston or newburgh. otherwise we are looking at 40 miles of interstate between the two groups on Saturday night, unless of course we find a spot in the middle in New Paltz for dinner.
what is the name of the hotel you booked at? website?
Pete: why dont you and i be the Race captains for this???
I will get John Stark to put up a spreadsheet as he does for the IMs and we can all log in and enter info there. I am happy to take the lead on finding a restaurant, can someone give me Jennyfer's contact info? or Patrick, can you make an intro? Things are fresh, i don't want to overwhelm her (as i can) in this time....
i dont know the area at all, just where it is from driving thru... if need be, i could take a day and do some driving recon...
any input or advice on where we should consider for lodging as a group would be helfpul. if people are agnostic to it, I am cool with driving further to Kingston and i think the group idea is very good.
There is actually a decent micro-brewery, Gilded Otter right in downtown New Paltz. Once we get a firm number I will call and see if we can reserve a enough tables for the group.
Just touched base with the RD, didn't want to step on anyone's toes.
He's thrilled. Willing to help in any way.
So, there ya go. If we have 20, 10, 5, or just me, it will be done. If I can't fly to upstate NY, I CAN commit to suffering for a few hours on May 20th, 7am with ya!
I think I'll start a thread in the rarely used Region section of the forums inviting anyone in the Southeast (anywhere for that matter), driving distance, to join in. And I'll hit the member map. I'm sure it'll be a small group, but we'll go hard. When you're hurting up in NY, we'll hurt with ya!
If the Lexington in New Paltz doesn't have enough rooms then the closet major city is Poughkeepsie. It it right across the river. It's probabably a 30 minute drive to the race course. There is a Courtyard which is normal fairly affordable.
Man I'm so glad you guys are figuring out the logistics, my head is just spinning! Just tell me where to be and I'll find a way to be there! The energy here is wonderful. Thank you all- it really warms my heart to see us all pull together for Chris and his family like this.
FOUND ROOMS IN NEW PALTZ, I need to get more info in the morning.
I need people to PM or Email me (sd@twgco.com) need to know what kind of room you want (queen or 2x double beds) what nights, fri & sat, or sat only, or if sunday, etc. # of people in party. person i spoke to said they were still pretty open for that weekend. which of the properties are your preference? please rank them... if we dont get a decent group rate at option 1, then option 2 may be the best, option 3 will not offer a group rate.
FOUR options so farI like option 1 the best)
Option 1 - Minnewaska lodge (this is near the Mohonk preserve! Race site!!!) published rates are $215 per night, they have 11 rooms left for the nights in question, will be speaking with manager tomorrow for a group rate. place looks schweet! http://www.minnewaskalodge.com
option 2 rodewayinnandsuitesnp.com? they have rooms on their website for $149 per night, the person i needed to speak with on this was gone for the day, i am going to try and get a group rate tomorrow.
Option 3 Super 8 New Paltz, again, nothing on the website, but they do have rooms if you call. 99 for friday & 195 for saturday. only TWO non smoking rooms available. both with 1 King bed (845)255-8865
Option 4 econolodge has 3 rooms with queens & 6 rooms with 2 double beds each. the rooms are NOT on their website. the rooms are $189 per night. Suspect they are gouging because it is graduation weekend for SUNY New Paltz. they only have 9 NOn smoking rooms and 2 smoking rooms available.
Mike & pete, want to consider dumping your reservation and staying in NP?
Comments
@Scott: Free Beer? You can count me in.
If I have it calculated correct there are only about 30 slots left. Lets see if we can fill them with EN. BTW, even though they have been relatively quiet I have noticed that the Boyle's have signed up as well.
Pete
Sounds like a grand memorial for Chris. I'm sorry I have an irreconcilable conflict - youngest child's college graduation.
Looks like a total blast and sorry I am not able to join the crew.
Carl, Steve and I are in the same boat, but maybe we could volunteer? What do you think about that? We could share a room?

Might work out for those of us in the area!
